2010 Winter Carnival of Magic

At the winter carnival, a competition and two lectures isn't enough to fill one morning so we also invited Nathan Kranzo to lecture before lunch. Nathan demonstrated his coin manipulations, a haunted deck, followed by his version of the voodoo card, and a version of the book test that can be done with a standard travel dictionary with no gaffs needed.

The first half of the day concluded with the close up show. This year's show featured the talents of Arthur Trace, Keith Fields, and Robert Bengel. Trace started the show with some traditional rope effects then transitioned into an amazing version of the Miser's Dream using a tin can telephone as the premise. He followed up with a 9-card routine and finished by pausing time to perform an egg bag routine. Fields started with a quick encore performance of his chop cup routine then performed a stunning ambitious card routine with a blank deck. Robert Bengel closed the show with a few card effects including an ace routine and a "diminishing" deck.

During the break in the action at the Country Tonite theater, guests once again had the choice of attending either The Comedy Barn or the Black Bear Jamboree at a discounted price. Both shows are excellent and Ring58 can't thank Fee/Hedrick enough for all the support they provide our club with during the Winter Carnival!

The convention officially concluded with the saturday night stage show. Richard Bloch entertained the guests with his antics as the MC. Ice McDonald awed the crowd with his high energy dove productions. Nathan Kranzo and Scott Francis had the audience rolling out of their chairs as each one performed their own hilarious effects. Audience members were left guessing what was going to appear and from where next... Arthur Trace awed the audience members as he demonstrated a new spin on several old effects. His billiard balls and pop up cards were not of the common day variety and his performance received a standing ovation from the magicians in the crowd. After Eric Buss survived his hop through the glue and playing cards, he overloaded the stage with springing snakes and we had no choice but to close the curtains and bid the public audience members good bye.

After the stage show the competition winners were announced. Second place in the close up contest was awarded to Hannibal and first place was awarded to Ed Ripley. There was a tie in the stage competion for Second place between Wayne Clemons and Hotrod, and first place was awarded to Robert Sode.

Richard Bloch offered the closing lecture for the 2010 WCM. He offered several pieces of advice for stage competitors. He also demonstrated multiple card effects and discussed his lecture notes "I Hate Rope Tricks". Bloch's sound advice was an excellent lecture for closing the offical part of the carnival. Tim Wright (aka Skilldini) offered a class on his famous effects the billiard balls and the zombie ball on Sunday.
